About Dr. Ajit Sabnis

Dr. Ajit Sabnis embodies a distinctive combination of technical proficiency and educational insight. He is a post-graduate from IIT Madras and holds a doctorate in Sustainability. He blends over four decades of technical excellence with a profound commitment to Integral Education.

He pioneered a unique sustainability algorithm, while simultaneously mentoring schools and interacting with students and educators for more than twenty-five years. He is an ardent traveller, avid reader, and speaker at national and international forums, and recipient of a national award for best editor of a reference journal.

Dr. Sabnis is a Member-Executive of the Sri Aurobindo Society, leading its initiatives in Karnataka and serving as Chairman of Auro Schools in Bangalore. He has conducted extensive programmes in integral education, values-based learning, and teacher empowerment. He is now focusing on establishing a National Teachers' Training Academy in Bangalore to shape the educators of tomorrow.

Engineering roots & global exposure

Began professional journey as a civil engineer at Gammon India, one of the world’s leading construction firms.
Collaborated with international experts and multinational organizations such as Tata Consulting Engineers (India), FLM (Germany), Mitsui (Japan), KKK (Bulgaria), and Hyundai (South Korea).
Gained deep, on-ground understanding of project execution, quality engineering, and cross-cultural teamwork across India and abroad.

Founded his own engineering and contracting organization in India emphasizing sustainable and eco-conscious construction.

Bridged the gap between academia and industry by creating Built Construction, a practical periodical featuring real-world case studies and new technologies — a pioneer effort in construction education.

Transitioned from engineering leadership to full-time educational transformation. Currently Chairman of Auro Schools and SAMATVA National Teachers’ Training Academy, Bengaluru.
Spearheads teacher development programs nationwide in collaboration with Rupantar, the educational arm of Sri Aurobindo Society.
Served as Chairman, NEP 2020 – Teacher Training, appointed by the Government of Karnataka.
Developed multiple training modules and authored materials to introduce Integral Education into mainstream classrooms.
In November 2025, released his celebrated book Five Dimensions of True Education – Empowering Educators for the Future, dedicated to educators shaping tomorrow.
